The 1948 Liner has been rebuilt to maintain its original iconic look, yet be safely towed at highway speed and be camped in with many of the expected conveniences of a modern Airstream.
Exterior: The extensive exterior shell-off rebuild, including replacing the original pipe frame with a 2″ x 6″ tubular ladder frame, replacing the leaf spring axle with a Dexter 3,500# rated torsion axle, installing marine grade plywood subfloor decking, installing fresh, grey and black holding tanks, polished exterior skin and installing two polished aluminum LP tanks.
Interior: The original interior layout was maintained. It includes a full-size rear bed and front banquette that can be made into a bed. It has the original kitchen gally that includes a stainless-steel sink, gas stove and ice box. (The ice box has been refrigerated using a 12 volt Norcold ice box conversion system). A microwave has been installed in the original oven. Marmoleum flooring, new curtains, cushions and mattress were installed. a new SS wet bath and ceramic toilet was installed. The original aluminum overhead bins and end cabinets were polished. Plumbing installation included all new PEX pipes, 2 1/2-gallon electric water heater and Shurflo water pump. An all new electrical 120 volt and 12 volt wiring systems were installed.
The original rebuild was completed in 2012, but the unit has been meticulous maintained and repaired as needed. Recent upgrades made in 2023 include the installation of a 13,500 BTU Houghton AC unit, two 100 watt solar panels, 30-amp MPPT solar controller, 100 AH Lifeline lithium battery, 2000-watt inverter and manual transfer switch. Centromatic wheel balancers were added to wheels and new Goodyear Endurance tires installed.
