I acquired this Airstream in 2001 from the original owner, a 97 yr old lady. She told me her husband knew a couple of the Airstream employees at the California factory and they had it custom built. She went on to say that shortly after WWII she towed the Airstream with a Model T Ford pickup truck up to Yosemite. Her husband led a team of horses and mules from Denair, CA and met up with her there, where they spent the summer camping!!
When I got it, it was completely all original and had been sitting unused for many years, but was in very good condition. I had hopes and dreams of converting it into a mobile coffee shop. I began gutting and restoring it. I spent countless hours polishing it inside and out. Life’s circumstances caused me to put the project on hold and I never did finish it. It’s got solid bones, has a few dents and dings, but is in very good condition. It has brand new tires and I had a new trailer hitch welded onto the tongue and new jack installed. I had new gray water tanks custom built. It’s a beautiful vintage trailer with tons of potential to be turned into an VRBO, camping trailer, or whatever business venture you have in mind. It’s a 1948 Airstream Trailwind 20′ body, 24′ bumper to hitch.
