Frame Up Restoration – 1953 “Alien Eyes” Silver Streak Clipper – Lighter than an Airstream!

This camper is an early Wally Byam design, the founder of Airstream. From 1937-1947, Wally worked on the design while employed by the Curtis Wright Manufacturing. In 1949, Curtis Wright sold the design to the Silver Streak Trailer Company in El Monte, California. This 20-foot, 2400-pound camper was pulled from a barn in New Mexico and has all these original details:

The restoration began at the frame, which was treated with Por-15 primer. New 3/4″ plywood subfloor, laminate flooring, windows, painted inside and polished outside to a mirror finish. Other features include New extra-long, full-size rear mattress; New front banquette that becomes full-size bed; New wheels/tires; All new plumbing/propane lines, including water tank, water pump, on-demand water heater; New electrical, including wiring, lights, rooftop vents/fans, breaker box, converter, and house battery; New bathroom, including marine toilet, sink and shower.
