I purchased this 1962 Airstream Flying Cloud 22 foot in 1995 and have been obsessed ever since. Once acquired, I completely restored it to peak condition. Now, this iconic beauty maintains its vintage charm but now has sophisticated upgrades allowing for you to be fully off the grid while still enjoying all the luxuries of a classic Airstream.

This trailer was my inspiration for the book, Airstream, The History of the Land Yacht published by Chronicle Books, 2000. Getting to know icon of Streamlined design in detail lead me down a path of much deeper research about trailer travel, trailer camping and the history around all things Airstream.

Highlights of the work done to restore this 1962 Airstream Flying Cloud to its original glory include: replacement of the sub floor, priming the entire frame and re insulating the entire floor. We wanted to keep the trailers original feel, layout and as many of the original fixtures as possible while integrating modern improvements when required. The belly pan underneath trailer was replaced. The interior cabinets were removed, and we used the original radius edges of original cabinets to rebuild new maple cabinets to insure that snug fit. All cabinet hardware was updated, a new linoleum floor was installed, and the walls were cleaned and painted. All of the cabinets, bed, couch and partition walls were custom built and are in great condition.

The trailer is kept covered at all times. This trailer has a new axle, electric brakes and new tires installed along with solar and battery storage to become a complete off the grid solar and battery trailer. These upgrades brought this trailer up to modern standards. Additionally, I had a carbon monoxide alert system wired into the trailer for peace of mind.

Original bathroom sink and tub were removed, cleaned and refinished with 2 part epoxy. Shower walls are original fiberglass system.
