1962 Airstream Tradewind (Land Yacht)
See pictures and read the blog about my story: www.airstreampadawan.com
Fully Renovated
-New subfloor, sealed with urethane against future moisture. (Most airstreams have rot here. Not this one.)
-New flooring & paint
-New 30-amp electrical, new wiring throughout, new outlets and lamps
-100% LED lighting for less energy use on battery power.
-New deep-cycle marine battery with integrated charger.
-Custom furniture, kitchen cabinets, and bathroom cabinet.
-Integrated ice-box (not refrigerator) for off-grid use.
-Insulation between shell walls is 100% new. No fiberglass insulation – all rodent-resistant high-R foam board and reflectix.
-Sink and tub are original, but coated with new epoxy (fixtures are new). New toilet.
-New grey and black wastewater tanks and new plumbing throughout.
-New freshwater tank and pex plumbing throughout.
-New hot water tank (6gal, LP)
-Fixed known factory-defect in steel frame (reconstructed steel frame and supported known weak points from the factory, then sealed against rust).
-New axle, brakes, and shocks. Professionally laser aligned to hitch to +/- 0.1″. (Tows perfectly straight.)
-Wired for AC (no unit, but wiring and drain tube is in place between shells)
-Two high-quality Fantastic Fans on the roof. Close automatically in rain. Built in thermostat in each.
-Wired for solar. Pass-through installed.
-Just about the only thing not done is polishing the outside. (This year of Airstream has the high-quality aluminum skin that can be polished to a mirror finish. However, it is about a 150-hour job to do right.) The plastic window casing is chipped, but that is an easy and cheap job after polishing.
Read the blog. It’s all there. All the sweat and joy of the project. You won’t find another Airstream that has a story like this.
