Standing in front of this 1965 “veteran” of the “Wally Byam Caravan Club, the Ghost numbers of 4585 above the front window, gently whisper multiple memories of rallies and caravans winding across our beautiful America. Oh…. the memories of long convoys of multiple glistening aluminum little homes, like a silver river winding it’s way into the sunset!
This Airstream has gone through a methodical lengthy restoration. Body was not removed from the frame, however almost every other aspect has been addressed. All interior contents were removed, floor repaired where needed, then a total rebuild of all structural components. All roof vents were replaced with Dometic “FanTastic” powered vent units, along with the Dometic AC unit approximately 5 years ago. All glass was replaced (plastic had been installed over it’s past). The outside has been stripped and buffed out with “polishing pads”. It has a great shine, not mirror finish, just a well kept and maintained look….it has “patina”…. Installed “new old stock” blue & white “Zip Dee” awning covers & material…(patio and both side windows)
>Two waste water tanks, one black and one gray with “indicating lights”.…(originally only one tank)
>New Convection / Microwave oven….original was propane
>New, automatic ignite, hot water heater…. (No pilot light…)
>New drinking water fixture and filter… (added)
>Custom, “tri-fold” 1-1/4” thick bathroom door (was bi-fold)…. tub restyled into walk-in shower..
> Restyled restroom cabinetry/ laminate top with Stainless Steel sink …(orig. plastic sink over tub)
>New free standing toilet…. (replaced existing “bench w/lid” style toilet)
>New, all interior wood cabinetry …mahogany stained birch plywood….retained all original hardware
>Real mahogany dinning table… 22” long x 30” wide w/o leaves – 44” long x 30 wide w/3 leaves
>2 ea. Vintage, folding wood dining room chairs (great for easy travel and or storage)
> Newly reupholstered Sofa (folds flat into a bed.)
>New, custom sized inner spring mattresses 32” x75”….(original were foam)
>New brakes & seals, cleaned & repacked all wheel bearings
>4” lift kit, installed between axels and springs… / New “wind down” stabilizing stands, frame mounted
