This is a ’76 Argosy 20, in real good condition overall. There aren’t many of these out there on the market. This length was replaced by the narrower Minuet in ’77. We’ve owned it since 2015 and have done a lot of work on it, mechanically and aesthetically. What it is now is a camper that is in the condition of a well-maintained, but not fully restored, original, making it ideal to use as-is or as a platform for a full restoration,
It (“Miss Ralph”- a long story) has performed flawlessly (and towed beautifully) on the two road trips we have taken, Florida and Colorado (we live in Vermont)- other than that, we have not traveled with it at all, simply using it as an entertainment hub on our land during the summer. Always covered in the winter, most of the time in our heated barn. When we bought it we put in new brakes, wheel bearings, and wiring for running lights. Tires are in good shape, it has a spare. We didn’t do a full repaint but touched up and revitalized the original aluminum; repaired the steel end caps (dents) and repainted them; repainted the auburn-colored lower outside trim; cleaned up the roof. Belly pan, which was in poor condition when purchased, has been repaired by a professional. No gray tank, but black one works well and has a new discharge valve. It has the Airstream “sunglasses” for front-window protection when cruising. The interior was redone in a mid-70’s theme (see rear bumper sticker), but not over the top- photographs depict. Sleeps four comfortably, in the original configuration. Storage cabinets are original, with an additional floor container and simple shelving unit for smallish items added by use. Stove is original, with a new sinks and faucet. A new Dometic refrigerator (two-way power) was added in 2020. New flooring was installed soon after we purchased the rig. Bathroom is original, and in sound mechanical order, with a recently-purchased faucet. Heater furnace was purchased new three years ago and has never been used.
Shortcomings (full disclosure): air conditioner worked well when we traveled with the camper, but apart from that we’ve never used it, and its roof cover/casing needs replacing; roof exhausts work but are cracked and broken in places; screens are solid but old, and at least one (screen door) needs replacing; paint is by-and-large original, not in the greatest condition but not awful, either; original overheard lights in cabin need replacing (we’ve added additional ighting); kitchen counter is perfectly usable and doesn’t look bad, but has cracks; original “radio music center” is history but the speaker ports have been decorated nicely.
Well that was a lot wade through but in short: winter’s coming, the perfect time to pick up the Argosy of your dreams and get it the way you like for your travel season pleasure. Willing to bargain a bit but I think the price is fair given what it is. Selling because we don’t see ourselves taking it out on the road again.
