Have an Airstream for sale?

Selling your Airstream doesn’t have to be a hassle. We’ll help you get the best price, quickly and easily.

This one-of-a-kind 1976 Airstream Argosy 28T Bicentennial Edition is a professionally reimagined tandem-axle iconic travel trailer that blends vintage character with modern luxury. Acquired by the seller in 2021, it has undergone an extensive, yacht-inspired resto-mod transformation most notably featuring a custom-built aft deck with a retractable bimini top, creating an open-air lounge. The renovation included a full overhaul of the plumbing, electrical, propane, and HVAC systems, as well as new 100% waterproof bamboo flooring, cabinetry, appliances, and furnishings. The exterior was refinished with an automotive-grade turquoise blue and black two-tone basecoat clearcoat paint. Inside, the layout includes a front lounge with a convertible sofa bed, a center galley, bathroom, and a spacious rear berth with a long twin bed. Amenities include a propane grill on the rear deck, an outdoor shower, Armstrong A/C, Olympic catalytic heater, flat-screen TV, bluetooth marine stereo system, microwave, and an on-demand water heater. This custom Argosy is offered with build documentation, component manuals, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.

At Dragonfly Campers, we are committed to delivering the highest standards of craftsmanship and build quality. I’ve been restoring vintage travel trailers for over 10 years, with a specialty in Airstream, Spartan, and Vagabond models. We’ve rescued over 50 trailers, though not all have been taken as far as this one. We’re proud to have a small team of highly skilled craftsmen who take great pride in their work. Our 120V electrical systems are carefully designed and installed by a commercial/residential electrician we’ve trusted and worked with for several years. This particular trailer has been a labor of love, worked on over the past three years amidst other smaller projects. I am extremely thrilled to offer this one-of-a-kind Airstream for sale. After posting videos and photo sets of this unit so far it has gone viral online two times.

The aluminum exterior was meticulously prepped and painted with automotive grade basecoat clearcoat paint, then compounded, polished, and protected. Details include chrome trim, a retractable boarding step, a combination entry and screen door, dimmable LED lighting throughout, and an extended rear bumper with integrated storage.

The aft section of the trailer has been reconfigured as yacht inspired open deck with a retractable bimini top. An outdoor shower connection is adjacent to the deck, and a fixture on the rear bulkhead secures the tethered sprayer to be used on the deck or set up and used in the provided shower tent next to the trailer.
A custom built aluminum door leads to the aft deck, which is outfitted with a diamond-plate floor, two functioning porthole windows, a pair of folding director’s chairs, and marine speakers along with plumbed floor drains, a removable propane grill and table, and a finely varnished African Sapele railing with integrated dimmable LED mood lighting.
A great deal of engineering, time , and care went into the modified stern of this trailer. We did remove weight, but we added back very close to the same amount of weight with the heavy gauge diamond plate aluminum deck panel, the structural aluminum stud and aluminum skinned rear wall, the Sapele handrail/end cap, and the heavy gauge aluminum panels installed under the handrail. During a build and after a build is complete we go through an extensive systems testing process this includes; towing the trailer up to highway speeds to confirm that our planned weight distribution works in reality and that there are no signs of sway or fishtail up to 85 Mph, water and propane lines pressure tested, all appliances are fully tested. We even pull the unit out from our dry storage in a heavy rainstorm and fully inspect the interior for leaks.
The Argosy has passed our full systems test systems tests and shakedown.

Six-spoke aluminum alloy wheels are wrapped in new 225/75 Contender trailer tires. Stopping power is from rebuilt electrically actuated drum brakes. New paint matched dual propane tanks are mounted on the tongue, and all new utility connections for water, 30 amp electricity, and waste disposal are positioned on the street side. The hubs were serviced and the wheel bearings repacked under current ownership.

The interior is outfitted with Lifeproof bamboo flooring, front curtains, roll-up shades, classic upper “vista view” windows, and operating ceiling vents. The forward lounge has the iconic wraparound Argosy windows, a folding restored original side table seating up to 5 people at its largest setting, overhead storage. The custom-made sofa bed turns into a full size bed and is made with a comfortable memory foam mattress extending out close to a queen. The 24″ flatscreen TV is secured on an adjustable mount that incorporates a removable adjustable shelf for a laptop or notepad, and bluetooth-enabled marine speakers are throughout the trailer. The original Argosy emblems were restored and in laid with resin and tinted with custom blended mica powder giving up to 3/16 inch of visual depth creating a unique visual effect.

Mounted just to the right of the entry door is an uncirculated 1776–1976 silver dollar. I added it as a simple tribute to the trailer’s bicentennial-year build. It’s a small detail that helps connect it to its history and the era it originally came from.
The galley has a quartz countertop and backsplash coordinating with the quartz throughout the rest of the trailer, a deep single basin sink, and turquoise-finished cabinets Incorporating soft close drawer hardware, along with a two-burner propane cooktop, microwave oven, an exhaust hood, and an under-sink water filter. A refrigerator freezer, and a retro color matched coffee maker griddle toaster oven is located across the walkway. The gray water tank and AC were In excellent condition and were refurbished during the build, other new house equipment includes freshwater and black tanks, an Olympic catalytic propane heater, a Bosch on demand water heater, dual deep-cycle house batteries, and a system monitor panel.

A berth with an extra long twin bed is centrally located and has a privacy curtain, large under-bed soft close storage drawers, a hinged window, and reading lights. The adjacent bathroom houses a vanity, a sink, and a porcelain toilet.

The frame was fully repainted during the refurbishment, and aluminum belly panels cover the underside. The chassis is equipped with fixed front and portable rear stabilizer jacks and full underglow lighting.

A lot of thought went into the decision not to include an interior shower in this build. We wanted to create a truly one-of-a-kind deck modification while preserving a spacious, open floor plan inside. This trailer is ready for the open road, but it can just as easily be transformed into a lakeside or oceanside entertaining space—with the deck doubling as a bar or lounge area. This unit was built to inspire the imagination, and provide a totally unique camper experience for the owners.
I often imagine this setup parked with the deck overhanging an epic view, maybe with a cedar sauna alongside it. Honestly, the best showers I’ve ever taken were outdoors—under the stars, with crickets chirping in the background.
Apologies for the lack of photos showing the privacy curtain setup for the aft deck shower. It only takes 1 minute to clip the curtain into the hardware.
