Ultra-RARE 1984 Airstream 310 w/ rebuilt Isuzu turbo-diesel

We purchased this beauty from the original owner, who also happened to be the longtime president of the Vintage Airstream Association of America and kept meticulous records. While in good shape already, we gave it a full interior upgrade including a memory foam mattress, chef-sized sink, and more (see list below). This unit has the rare and reliable Isuzu six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that is prized amongst collectors. For provenance, we have included a letter from the Director at Airstream to the previous owner dated February 8, 1994 stating “…you’ve got a rare one. We only built about five or six of them in 1984.”

There are less than 54,000 miles on the odometer and just 990 since the engine & transmissions were fully rebuilt by Husker Power Products. It also had a full rear end replacement and refit of chassis/cab components. Records for this work is included and we can provide service history back to 1983 for every piece of equipment on the rig. It is truly a piece of RV history with all the modern upgrades to be comfortable in 2022. These include:
– Bedroom TV on extending mount with x-box and two controllers.
– Memory foam queen size bed that lifts to provide storage and pump access.
– Propane Onan generator with just 188 hours and lines recently purged and inspected.
– Two a/c units that work great, as do all appliances, which represent a mixture of new and refurbished originals.
– The sink is chef-sized and all kitchen appliances work well.
– Bedroom windows have custom light blocking covers using Velcro.
– Bathroom upgraded to cedar walls to provide a nice scent all year.
– Custom propane barbecue grill built into one of the exterior compartments.
– Upgraded stereo with speakers throughout (including bedroom).
– Custom exterior shower head with pull chain. The interior shower was too small to be functional, so we built the outdoor shower and converted the interior shower space to storage space with a barn door.

Everyone knows that buffing Airstreams are an unwelcome regular cost, so the previous owner had this rig painted to match the Airstream metal color rather than buff out every year. It could easily be converted back to bare metal if preferred, but we frankly agree with the previous owner that this represents a far superior method. There is some minor body exterior damage to disclose. During transport, the trucking company did not properly secure the original sun visor and the wind damaged its brackets such that they had been removed (parts come with purchase). This also caused a moderate scratch on the right side, but since the previous owner converted to a painted body, these can be repaired by any body shop or Airstream specialist. If the unit does not sell quickly, we plan to have these minor blemishes fixed and relist for a higher price.
Per attached, total investment in the rebuild is at least $60,000. This is one of the rarest Airstream models out there and its provenance dating back to purchase makes it even more so. We intended to keep it forever, but now that we have brought it home to our new place in central Austin, we just do not have the room and recognize we will eventually have to sell. That being true, figured it would be best to do so when it was still basically a brand-new drivetrain from the radiator to the differential! Listing for $65,000 on the hope & expectation of a quick sale rather than dragging it out on an auction site.
