Ease of operation and great style were the key reasons for the purchase of this 2017 Airstream Basecamp. Towed with a Land Rover LR2 this trailer can be hitched and unhitched in 15 minutes by a single person. Traveled with another person or four cats ….. but not both. Excellently maintained over five years allowing for two long trips (9 and 11 weeks) to explore pockets of little remembered US history in a Midwest loop and a Southern loop, as well as shorter trips of week to 10 day duration to explore the great outdoors of the Southwest. Truma Combi Heating system (14, 300 BTU) and 3 cu ft refrigerator operate with electric or gas allowing the flexibility of connecting in parks or going barebones. Barebones camping further supported by a 22 gal. freshwater tank and 29 gal combo black water tank and solar panels.
Front of trailer is a wraparound window making for a kitchen with 2 burner stove and microwave with the best views in the country. Toilet and wet shower separate the kitchen area from the living area. Ease of re-configuration was a key selling point of this trailer. Two benches line either side of the rear of the trailer. Under bench storage allows for the set up of either two low “cocktail” level tables or dining level tables with seating around. Each bench can act as a bed or with the support of the low tables, a sleeping area that covers ¾ or the full back end can be created…….no separate sleeping area to just take up space! Limited storage …… a lesson in learning how much you really need.
All warranty work completed and last trip to Texas for a Rock Art Rendezvous without hookups saw all systems operating beautifully. Opening up the back door, the two side windows and the side door allow breezes to flow through and with the fan create a cool environment in most situations. But in case it’s 90 degrees in western Kansas, an air conditioner quickly cools down the trailer when you are hooked up to electric.
Completed five year plan to travel US and am now parting with trailer reluctantly.
