Specifics
I am selling the trailer because of a recent serious cycling accident that has affected my left femur. At age 75 this will take a while to recover. Accordingly, my wife and I have decided that traveling in our Caravel is just not feasible.
My wife and I purchased our Caravel from a young couple in Denver, Colorado. They owned the trailer for about 18-months and demonstrated meticulous care in its use. Their Caravel was housed in a separate storage unit over the two winters they owned the trailer.
When we purchased the trailer there were two things that needed attention. First, we needed to replace 5 or 6 rivets that were missing in the interior shell. We used Airstream Spokane to do the work and had no issues since. No problems on the exterior shell.
After a long trip to California we noticed an issue with the booth. We noticed that part of the wood framing was loose. When we returned home I hired a professional finish carpenter to deal with the problem. After two half-days of work the booth was as new. Seriously, the wooden booth framing is now “better than new”.
My wife and I found the dining table to be too large for seating comfort. We had no need for the built-in bed option, so we fabricated and installed a table that is about 80% of the original table size. This allowed much easier seating for the two of us. We’ve kept the original table and hardware and will happily put it back, as original, if you prefer.
The rear bumper also serves as a clever storage space. People put their hoses and other necessities in this handy, narrow enclosure. Earlier this year I noticed small patches of rust at the bottom of the storage area. As a former painting contractor, I removed the rust, primed the bottom area and finished it with low-sheen black paint.
Finally, Airstream has an ingenious feature regarding the Black Water tank. After you sweep the gray and black water from the trailer, Airstream provides a “black water flush” that completely eliminates any remaining waste. This is accomplished by the use of a number of individual streams of water in the tank that scours any residual black waste. Genius!
